Mount Prospect Public Library recognized with Silver Award for Excellence in Masonry
On Saturday, April 28, the Library was honored by the Illinois Masonry Institute Promotion Trust for the outstanding composition of its brick and glass work. Selected from 99 entries, the Library was one of only four Silver award winners. Jane Everett, Mount Prospect Public Library Board Trustee, accepted the award on behalf of the Library. The 2002 successful referendum for $ 20.5 million allowed the Library to undergo the expansion and physical transformation that resulted in this award. In selecting the Library, the judges commented that the “rhythm of brick and glass [breaks] this sizeable structure down into a dynamic design. The simple effect of protruding individual bricks adds subtle interest to the masonry portions of the facades at close range, while a massive stone entry draws visitors to the main entrance.”
