Shrek the Third

Take those blankets and lawn chairs over to the Lions Park Bandshell (411 S. Maple) and watch "Shrek The Third" under the stars on Friday (July 25) at dusk.  Popcorn, snacks and ice cream are available for purchase.

Downtown Block Party

Don't miss the fun at the Downtown Block Party on Saturday (July 26) from 4 - 9 pm in front of Village Hall (Busse St. at Emerson).  Free kids' activities include pony rides, moonwalk, a mini-Ferris wheel, face painting, clowns and more.  Local restaurants will provide food and bands and other entertainment will be ongoing.  Local merchants and organizations will pass out info on services and products.  Don't forget to stop by the Library booth!  For more info, go to http://www.mountprospect.org/community/special_events/blockparty.html .

Muscle Cars

While you're at it, rumble on over and take a look at some vintage Muscle Cars and Street Rods at the Bluesmobile Cruise Night on Saturday (July 26) from 6 - 9 pm at the Metra parking lot (Rte. 83 and Northwest Hwy.)

Farmers Market

The Lions Club Farmers Market continues on Sunday (July 27) from 8 am - 1 pm in the Metra parking lot (Rte. 83 and Northwest Hwy.)  I heard the watermelon is great!

Do-It-Yourself Sousa

The MP Community Band closes its outdoor season with the always popular "Do-It-Yourself" Sousa on Monday (July 28). The concert starts at 7 pm at the Lions Park Veterans Memorial Bandshell (411 S. Maple St.)

Kids Can Be a Police Officer/Firefighter...

for a day at the Children's Safety Academy  Thursday (July 31) from 10 am to 2 pm.  The event is sponsored by the MP Police and Fire Departments and will be held at the Public Safety Building (112 E. Northwest Hwy).  The event is for 8 and 9 year-olds and is limited to the first 20 kids that register.  Lunch is provided.  To register, call the MP Police Crime Prevention Unit at 847-870-5650.

BeBop in the Park

Listen to a tribute to Sinatra, Vegas and all things that swing at the Concert in the Park on Thursday (July 31) at the Lions Park Veteran Bandshell (411 S. Maple) beginning at 7 pm.  The band "Bopology" will be featured.

Back to School for a Cause

Wheeling Twp. is collecting school supplies for their annual Back-To-School assistance program for needy kids in the township.  Donations will be accepted the week of July 28 - Aug. 1.  Backpacks are especially needed.  Other items requested are general school supplies (markers, crayons, colored pencils, pens, glue sticks etc.)  Donations can be dropped off at the Township Hall (1616 N. Arlington Hts. Rd., AH) Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4:30 pm.

Children's Free Ortho Clinic

The Illinois Elks Children's Care Program will hold a free orthopedic clinic for children without health insurance from 3:30 - 5:30 pm on Aug. 7 at Northwest Orthopedic Surgery Assoc. (1120 N. Arlington Hts. Rd., AH)  For details, call (800) 272-0074 between 1 and 4 pm, Monday through Friday.

Crafting for a Cause

Euclid Elementary School (1211 N. Wheeling Rd.) is seeking crafters for their Fall/Holiday Craft Show to be held on Oct. 4.  For more info, call Ann (847-253-0626) or Carolyn (847-392-3927) before Aug. 15.
